What does the “311 Amber Alert” do?

Did you watch the video? It’s less than two minutes long. If you’re in public or something and can’t watch a video out of politeness, here’s a simple summary: it’s a free Google Chrome plugin that plays the opening riff of alternative nü-metal band 311’s 2001 hit “Amber” in a loop from 3:11:00 to 3:11:59, AM and PM, every single day, to remind you when it’s 3:11.

How was this created?

I had the initial idea, and as I don’t know how to code or anything, I paid a guy in Eastern Europe $35 on Fiverr to make it for me. He did a pretty bang up job if you ask me!

Do you have any association with 311 or have 311’s permission to make this?

Nah, but I can’t imagine they wouldn’t be cool with it. Based off of their brand of alt-reggae rap rock, they seem like pretty chill guys. Also, they’d have to respect that I pumped $35 into the Estonian economy, only the 110th biggest economy in the world, just ahead of Mali.

Is there a way that I can turn off the alarm after it hits 3:11? I’m currently at work and it’s rather embarrassing.

No, you cannot turn it off. The Eastern European guy did not code that in, as I specifically told him to not make that an option so as to ensure maximum effect.

This app woke up my newborn daughter at 3:11 in the morning, what do you have to say for yourself?

That’s kind of the point. If you installed it, you knew what you were getting yourself into: software produced on a budget by a man living in the former-Soviet Bloc that was designed to play 311’s “Amber” at 3:11 AM and PM. If a friend put it on your browser as a prank, we assume no responsibility for any damages caused by the product “311 Amber Alert”.

It won’t stop, please help.

Really? Shit, sorry. That’s what happens when you pay a guy less than a Benjamin to make your Google Chrome plugin! You might’ve put your computer to sleep and it’ll start playing as soon as you wake it back up. Change your internal clock to 3:11:50 and it’ll go off in 10 seconds. Alternatively, you could uninstall the plugin, but then you won’t know when it’s 3:11, so this option is not recommended.

How can I contact the creator of this plugin?

You can reach me at lukewienecke@hotmail.com for any and all questions or press inquiries or offers to send those free Chik-Fil-A sandwich coupons…unless you are 311’s lawyer or legal representation for their label, BMG Records, then uh, no, that is *not* my email address and please do not try to reach me.

Are any of these questions *really* asked frequently?

Absolutely not, I typed these up before I even put up the website. Hope you found them helpful or at least mildly entertaining!

May amber always be the color of your energy!
